FAQs
Hopefully this page will answer some of the questions you may have about Storm Tuning Products.
I'm not based in the UK. Can you remap my Td5?
Yes! We can offer several remote options ranging from replacement ECUs posted to your door to remote remapping using diagnostic tools. Check the locations section on the home page to see if there is an agent near you.
What do I need to do before a Stage 2 Td5 remap?
You need to remove the EGR valve, centre exhaust silencer and, if fitted; catalytic converter.
Any of our approved agents can supply/fit you with the required parts or you can purchase them from Paddock Spares
Do I need an upgraded intercooler for a Stage 2 remap?
No. We can achieve Stage 2 power with a standard intercooler. However, If your intercooler is leaking then it needs to be replaced a performance upgrade would be a good idea. We recommend Serck for Discovery 2 vehicles and BAS for Defenders.
I have a NNN ECU. Can I remap my TD5 using my Nanocom?
Yes. We can supply tuning files tailored to your requirements that you can load to your vehicle using your Nanocom. We’re more than happy to talk you through the procedure and review diagnostics data before and after and offer technical support.
Can you remap my Puma/TDCI Defender/D3/D4?
We don’t currently offer software for these vehicles but we are currently developing products for them.
Can you remap my "other make and model"?
Unfortunately no. We prefer to to focus our development work on a select few applications rather than taking a jack of all trades approach to tuning. The best advice we can offer is to find a tuner that specialises in that marque
I'm nowhere near Sheffield, is bringing my vehicle to you the only option?
We have a number of Approved Agents up and down the country that will be more than happy to assist you. See our location map here.
We can also offer a number of remote options too. Please get in contact to learn more.
Can you remap my 200/300 Tdi?
Unfortunately the 200/300 Tdi engine are controlled by a mechanical fuel pump and as such there is no ECU to remap. Stegs Supplies offer tuning products for these engines. You can find more info on their website here
Why do you offer tuning in "Stages" ?
The tuning Stages reflect the hardware modifications required and not the remap, i.e. Stage 1 – no modifications, Stage 2 – basic exhaust modifications, Stage 3 – Turbo upgrade.
Do you offer popcorn/hardcut limiters?
Yes we do, however due to the nature of how the limiter operates on a TD5, we strongly advise against it.
Can I fit a EGR removal kit myself before bringing the vehicle for a remap?
Certainly! Although all our approved agents offer fitting services we appreciate some owners want to do this themselves. You can find a how to guide here courtesy of Discovery2.co.uk (the process is identical for TD5 Defenders)
I have an MSB TD5 ECU. If you remap it, can it then be updated over the OBD port rather than on the bench?
No. Although the EPROM (memory chip) can be replaced with a rewritable EEPROM the ECU does not contain the physical hardware to reprogram it via the OBD port and as such still requires the ECU to be updated on the bench for any future changes.
My Wastegate Modulator Valve has failed. Do you reccommend bypassing it?
No. We would recommend replacing it with a genuine Pierburg valve (PMK100130)
